DAVIS-BESSE UNIT ONE NUCLEAR POWER STATION SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FOR LER NP-33-77-12 DATE OF EVENT: June 13, 1977 FACILITY: Davis-Besse Unit 1 IDENTIFICATION OF OCCURRENCE: The wind speed indicator at Elevation 827 feet above sea level was not indicating properly.
Conditions Prior to Occurrence: The plant was in Mode 5.
Power: (MWE) 0, (MWT) 0 Description of Occurrence: At approximately 0930 hours0.0108 days
0.258 hours
0.00154 weeks
3.53865e-4 months
on June 13, 1977 during weekly inspection of the Meteorological Monitoring System by station personnel ~,
it was discovered that the wind speed indiencor at 827 feet above sea level was not indicating properly.
NUS, the firm responsible for maintenance on the tower, l
was notified as to the nature of the occurrence.
j Designation of Aeparent Cause of Occurrence:
NUS found the bearings in the wind
)
speed indicator to be defective and replaced the entire unit with one that had been previously tested and calibrated. The unit was replaced by 1400 hours0.0162 days
0.389 hours
0.00231 weeks
5.327e-4 months
on June 14, 1977, which restored proper indication and removed the station from the Action Statement of Technical Specification 3.3.3.4.
Analysis of occurrence:
Since there was no radioactive release requiring meteoro-logical monitoring during the period that the unit was inoperable, no danger to the health and safety of the public or static.' personnel occurred.
l Corrective Action: The entire wind speed transmitter was replaced with a cali-brated and tested unit by NUS. This transmitter has been and will continue to be replaced by NUS on a regular basis at three month intervals. This incident is considered unique and would not usually occur because of the preventative main-tenance by NUS.
Failure Data: No previous similar events have occurred.
