Goller, Assistant Director, Division of Operating Rasetors, NRR g 9 ~ ~ L' DAVIS BESSE UNIT NO. 1 - PRESSURIZER SAFETI VALVES Regian III has brought to our attention a problem that exists in setting the lifting pressure for pressurizer safety valves to meet the proposed Technical Specifications Sections 3.4% 3.4.3 and 3.7.1.1 for Davis-Besse Unit No. 1.
This problem stems from the fact that the safety valve setting is apparently temperature depend-ent. Within the range of predicted ambisnt operating temperatures, the lifting pressure of the safety valve is expected to exceed the limits specified in the proposed TS. We are enclosing a curve that depicts the change in lifting pressure as a function of valve ambient temperature. As presently specifidd, it appears impossible to reet the requirements of the Technical Specifications.
In view of their proposed startup schedule, ve recotmend your pro =pt consideration of this problem as it applies to Davis-Besso Unit :To. 1.
The Eeneric consideration of this cntter should be reflected in the Standardized Technical Specifiestions.
This matter has been discussed with J. W. Roe by G. R. Ilincler, the cognizant IE centset.
