Regarding my July 29, 1976 memorandum to you on the above subject it has been br:ught to my attentica that the information presented in iten 3 on Page 2 of the enclosure is subject to an interpretation that was not intended. In particular the term reliability should be deleted from the referenced paragraph.
Therefore please delete tae infor:ation presented in iteu 3 of Page 2 and insert the following:

Testability of ESFAS channels was reviewed in detail.
It was determined that non-Class IE equipment associated with the ESFAS test modules was utilized for periodic verification of ESFAS channels. The applicant was advised that the staff required that the equipment design of the test systen be equivalent to that of the ESFAS in which it is located, and tnerefore the design feature of using non-Class 1E equipment for ESFAS testing is not acceptabic.
The applicant was requested to :accify the design by providing a fully Class IE tcst scheme. The applicant cc:aitted to review this design and conform with the staff's requirenents.
Recipients of the July 29, 1976 memorandum are requested to correct their copies accordingly.
