d Thomas M. Novak, CL C, Reactor Systems Branch, TR DAVIS-BESSE I RADIOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF RHR DESIGN BASIS ACCII1DIT With reference to your memo of Davis-3 esse 1 RHR Design dated 8/20/75, RPS calculated the dose to personnel entering containment to open the bypass valve af ter single failure of one of the motor-operated isolation valves.

In our calculations we have used an occupancy time of 10 minutes undernno contain=ent purge conditions and airborne radioactivity concentrations of noble gases based on 6.5 hours5.787037e-5 days
0.00139 hours
8.267196e-6 weeks
1.9025e-6 months
of leakage of 140 gal / min of maxisten isotopic concenerstiens(1% failed fuel) reactor coolant water. Table I is a breakdown of cource terms used and doses attributed to each radio-nuclide. The "k" factor in the tablo is based on a 20 meter radius hemi-sphere and is the fraction of the semi-infinite dose based on this finite radius. We have also tabulated the sent-infinite dose (last column in table) so that we could compare this result with the applicants apparent method of calculation.

Results show that the skin lenta dose is 840 aren and the vbole body dose (which include the dose received to the lens of the eye) is 144 mren.

Thyroid dose calculations during containment occupancy were not made since the applicant plans on using Scott airpacks during this 10 minute operstion. This work was performed by S. Block, RPS/"d3.

Submersion and inhalation doses were determined for individuals at the site boundary following purging of reactor contaiment. Table II shows The 5 percentile X/Q the source terng)used fm il.eee calculations.

(5.47.10-4 sec/s was ased to eesluate this occurrence. The calculated adult total body dose, skin dose and dose to thy thyroid for this release were 0.07, 0.16 and 24 res respectively. This work was pcrformed by M. Parsont and K. Eckeram, RIS/RAB.
