i DAVIS-BESSE UNIT NO. 1SER INPUT The Davis-Besse Unit No. I turbogenerator is arranged in a non-peninsular orientation with respect to the containment. Our review indicates that the only safety related target that is vulnerable to direct strike turbine missile is the upper portion (above el. 660' 0") of the reactor containment building which consists of a 2' 6" reinforced concrete outer wall and a free standing inner steel shell. On the basis of the most recently available turbine vendor missile energy estimates, we estimate the probability of a turbine missile damaging primary system piping and equipment to be about 1.4 x 10-6 per turbine-year. This is based on the estimate that the prob-ability of damaging primary system piping and equipment should a missile penetrate containment, to be approximately 2 x 10-lor less.
In view of the low likiilihood of damage from a turbine missile, we conclude that the protection against turbine missiles is acceptable.
