Roof and es:terior wall minimum thicknesses (inches) for Class I structures are shown in Table I.

Table I

~ Class I Structure Roof

  • Wall Shield building 24 30 Emergency lock enclosure 18 15 Auxiliary building 18 24**

Intake structure 21 24 NOTE:

  • All roofs are above 30'-0" except the emergency lock enclosure which is 12'-6" above ground.

All Class-I exterior walls are 24 inches thick except one section of wall of the Diesel Generator Building, which is 18 incher, thick.

For Missile F below 30 feec elevation and Missile C for all elevations, the approximate velocities below which penetration and the generation of secondary missiles is not calculated to occur are show in Table II.

Table II Velocity (ft/sec)

Missile 15" 18" 21" Missile Description Concrete Concrete Concrete

+

Steel Bod, C

1" dia. x 3' long 300 192 335 220 369 247 wt 8 lbs.

Utility Pole, F

13 " dia. x 35' long 300 127 333 146 366 164 wt 1,490 lbs.

NOTE:

Velocity below which generation of secondary missiles does not occur.

The Bechtel topical report, BC-TOP-9A, Revision 2, Septsmber 1974 was used to arrive at the velocities given in Table II.

2..

Separation cf redundant components has not been relied on for tornado missile protection. Systems vital to safe shutdown are enclosed in Class I structures ahich have been designed to withstand the tornado missiles given in FSAR Table 3-4.
