Dear Mr. Knuth:
This letter is submitted as an Interim Report regarding mactor coolant pump suction field weld linearly disposed indications at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station as reported to the Directorate of Regulatory Operations Region III by my letter of April 2,1974.
The study as to the cause of the referenced discontinuities is now underway using a weld mock-up of the field conditions. Upon completion of this study, a definitive report will be submitted to your office in accord with 10 CFR Part 50.55.
No further welding on the reactor coolant pump suctions is being conducted; repairs are being withheld until the investigation is complete and satisfactory resolution determined.
