Withdraw Ircore Instrument Strings l
Dear Sirs:
u Attached for IRC review and approval is the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) for Use of the Polar Crane Auxiliary Hock Above the Incore Instrument Seal Table to withdraw Incore Instrument Strings. The proposed activity is being performed as part of the NRC-soonsored program to remove metallurgical samples i
from the TMI-2 Reactor Vessel (reference GPU Nuclear letter 4410-89-L-0085 l
dated August 18, 1989). Prior to removal of these samples at incore l
instrument penetration locations, the incore instrument strings must be i
withdrawn about two to three feet at the Incore Instrument Seal Table. The weight of the polar crane auxiliary hook and block constitute a heavy load (greater than or equal to 2400 lbs.); thus, pursuant to Technical Specification 3.10.1, " Crane Operations - Containnent Building," tEC prior approval of the proposed activity is reouired.
