COMANCHE PEAK STEAN ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKET NOS 50 445 AND 50 446 DEFECT IN ASTM A500 TUBE STEEL SDAR: CP 89-027 (INTERIM REPORT)
Gentlemen:
j On September 26, 1989, TV Electric verbally notified.the NRC of a deficiency involving ASTM A500 tube steel.
This is an interim report submitted on a potentially reportable condition under the provisions of 100FR50.55(e).
Specifically, a " crack like" deficiency was identified on an instrument air l
support. This deficiency was observed on ASTM A500 tube steel on the inside
[
wall surf ace, parallel to and outside the heat affected zone of the weld.
>i Material of this same heat number has been used in the fabrication of safety-related pipe supports.
Further evaluation is required to establish the safety significance and assess the reportability of this issue.
Our next report will be submitted prior to f
fuel load for Unit 1.
