Dear Sir:

l L Reference (a) requested that holders of operating licenses or j construction permits for Hestinghouse designed nuclear power reactors with 1

< steam generators having carbon steel. support plates implement actions to minimize the potential for a steam generator tube rupture event caused by a rapidly propagating fatigue crack such as occurred at North Anna Unit 1.

References (b) and (c) presented Commonwealth Edison's (Edison's) previous

. responses for Byron and Braidwood Stations to Reference (a). Subsequently, the NRC has requested confirmation that Edison's definition of denting is ,

consistent with the definition provided in Reference (a). This letter i provides the response to that request.

During eddy current examinations of the steam generator tubes for 3 Byron Unit I and Braidwood Unit 1, the data is evaluated for evidence of i denting as defined in Reference (a). As indicated in Reference (b), Byron  ;

Unit 2 and Braidwood Unit 2 have steam generator models which are not within i the scope of Reference (a). At this time, it is Edison's understanding that I no further information is required for closure of Reference (a) for Byron and 1 Braidwood Stations.
