On October 5,1989, the staff of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation f
(NRR) not with representatives of the South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) to discuss the nrious strategies for addressing steam generator i
tube problems at tha V. C. Sunener Nuclear Station and the anendn=nts associated i
with these strategies.
The meeting was held at the hRR offices in Rockville, Maryland. A list of those persons who uttended the nesting is included as l.

,DyCUSSION s
The licensee presented their integrated program for addressing the continual degradation of the V. C. Sunsner steam generator and their rationale for having Lhese options available for the March 1990 refueling outage. The licensee m
presented the impact on the Sumer Nuclear Station if the options L* and f*
are not available for the refueling outage. The licensee also discussed the i
r;ead for the B&ti short sleeve anendnent.
J As a result:of'the neeting it was determined that (1) additional data i
reflecting industr3 experiance with F* is necessary for the F* awndment, (2)
.f a meeting will be held between SCE&G and the NRC to discuss sons of the technical aspects of t.*, most notable the adequancy of tre use of eddy current j
testing to determine steam generator tube crack size and orientation and (3) the NRc will investiage ways to handle the B&W sleeving amendment request in a manner to ensure that resolution has been reached on its use prior to the
