REFERENCE:
Region II - Suite 3100 RII - JP0 101 Marietta Street, NW 50-321/50-366 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 I&E Bulletin 80-16 ATTENTION: Mr. James P. O'Reilly Gentlemen:
Hatch site technical personnel, along with its architect engineer, have conducted a review of all the Rosemount pressure transmitters being used in safety-related systems at Hatch Units 1 and 2.
The review revealed that the Unit 1 safety-related systems do not employ any of the transmitters which were specified in the bulletin. On Unit 2 it was discovered that several of the transmitters within the MSIV Leakage Control System (2E32) are of the Model 1151 transmitter specified in the bulletin. Attached is a listing of the affected transmitters along with their associated process and service data.
. Five of these transmitters have "E" type output which were not mentioned in the bulletin; however, they are similar to the "A"
and "D" output transmitters in that they all supply 4 to 20 milliamp linear output signals. The other ten transmitters are all Rosemount 1151 with "A" type outputs.
Presently the General Electric Company is reviewing process and system design data which relates to the affected Model 1151 transmitters. Their response is needed to adequately respond to action item numbers 2 and 3 of the bulletin. When GE submits their analysis to the plant site a final response to the bulletin will be submitted.
Since there are no data available which indicates that the existing trans-mitters have ever been subjected to over or reverse pressures, we plan to continuenormal operation of the Unit 2 reactor at least until we receive the GE response. The Unit 1 reactor is not affected since its safety systems do not employ any of the aforementioned types of transmitters.
If you have any questions in this regard, please ~. tact my office.
Sincerely,
$Y/
