Mr. James P. O'Reilly, Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region II - Suite 3100 101 Marietta Street Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
OFFICE OF INSPECTION AND ENFORCEMENT BULLETIN 80 RII:JP0 50-327 -
SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 In response to your letter to H. G. Parris dated March 13, 1980, which transmitted Inspection and Enforcement Bulletin 80-06 on Engineered Safety Features (ESF) Reset Controls, we submitted the preliminary results of our investigation for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant unit 1 on June 12, 1980.
TVA is evaluating safety-related components, identified by the Jrawing review required by item 1 of the bulletin, which do not remain in the emergency mode after reset of the ESF actuation signal to determine where undesirable safety consequences might occur. As components are identifiad where reset of the ESF actuation signal causes undesirable consr.quences, the circuits are being redesigned or modified to ensure the component remains in its emergency mode.
TVA is in the process of preparing the procedures for the tests required by item 2 of the bulletin. The tests are-expected to be completed by September 1, 1980.
We expect to submit a complete response to the bulletin by August 1, 1980. This response will include a description of required modifica-tions, confirmation of the test schedule, and a description of any additional problems identified by the test program.
