This is a follow-up to our March 21, 1980 response to IE Bulletin 80-03 which concerns the loss of charcoal from stan-dard adsorber cells. In that letter, we indicated that the CVI Penwalt Corporation units were all welded construction.

This applies to the control room ventilation units (our equip-ment tag numbers IVC 09SA, B and IVC 10S).

Our inspection of the American Air Filter design was inconclusive, as it was impossible to visually inspect the internal onstruction of the bottom of the adsorber cells.

We have since received a response to our inquiry from American Air Filter. We were able to inspect the top of the cells, and found that the perforated plates were connected to the top plate with a continuous weld. American Air Filter replied that the bottom was assembled in the same way. This applies to our Standby Gas Treatment System equipment trains (1VG05SA, B).

Since continuous welding was used on all of the charcoal cells for these units, this precludes any possibility for charcoal leakage.

We trust that this will complete our responsibility in l responding to IE Bulletin 80-03.  !
