Dear Co,

High level GVMI. waste consists of the fission product radioactivity contained in the spent ~ ~ fuel assemblies that are removed from the-reactor core after about' three-7* years of reactor operation. Approximately one third of the 177 fuel assemblies in the reactor core are removed at the end of~ each operating' h cycle..To date no fuel assemblies or other source of high level waste,, n a~ ,have been. shipped from the ANO-1 site. v:d J L 't J 5 c .. C..s -L , J - ' ~. D.-

j. /n.;;w The low level wastes ginerated at ANO-1 consi.st mainly of contaminated q.

solid waste, generated during maintenance operations,. contaminated or, " 15.f;,.,, irradiated components that are replaced, spent resins from various. rt. 1W domineralizers used for water purification, and low level or potentially 3he coritaminated. material such as protective"c1cthing', paper, rags and gloves. ^ ff ~ ~ In addition,~ several shipments of low radioactivity water were made during e 1976 in. order that enough clean waste rsceiver t'ank storage capacity '"N' would beav~a11able to continue operation. 1These shipments were necessi-tated by two unrelated operating events which resulted in excessively ^^ 1arge amounts of waste water. y.
