H ELPIN G BUILO ARKANSAS ARK ANS AS POWER & LIGHT COMPANY SIXTH AVENUE ANQ AINE STREET e PINE BLUFF, AAKANSAS 71601 e (5013 JE 4-1330 CE amasc February 4, 1969 Mr. Peter A. Morris, Director Division of Reactor Licensing United S tates Atomic Energy Commission Washington, D. C. 20545 Arkansas Nuclear One Docket Number 50-313 Liner Anchoraee Test Program

Dear Mr. Morris:

This is in response to your letter to me dated January 4, 1969, discussing the Liner Anchorage Test Program.

The Test Program consists of 14 tests - six tes ts with 4-12 weld in tension, six tes ts with 6-12 weld in tension and two tes ts with 4-12 weld in compression.

Bechtel's prediction is that the results of the tension and compression tests will be practically identical; however, even if this is not the case, they will be able to extrapolate a 6-12 weld cem-l pression test restit from the relationship cf the 4-12 compression, 4-12 tension and 6-12 tension tes ts.

These tests are now in the process of being performed.

Yours very truly,

,L J. D. PHILLIPS Vice President & Chief Engineer JDP:mr
