This letter is in reference to a recent safety inspection of an NRC licensee, L
also contracted for services by Taylor Energy Company, conducted on September 21 and 22, 1989, on one of your offshore drilling platforms.
The inspection was related to the use of radioactive materials while performing well logging activities.
During the inspection, the inspectors observed that the material was appropriately stored and handled by the well logging-staff, The inspectors clso noted that rig personnel observed safety instructions given by the logging engineer and that appropriate personnel were well informed of procedures to be followed in the event that a radioactive source became lodged down-hole.
We wish to thank you and your staff members for their assistance in notifying us of the proposed well logging activities and for their assistance in scheduling offshore transportation for our inspectors. The inspectors found your staff to be both cooperative and informative during the inspection process.
We look forward to a continued cooperative effort between Taylor Energy Company and the NRC to ensure safety of your offshore personnel.
