Dear Mr. Mangusi:
We appreciate your notification of October 4 that natural uranium intended for conversion in EURATOM and fabrication in the U.S. prior to ultimate ur.e in Taiwan power reactors was inadvertently shipped to EURATOM under license XUO8561, even though this license authorizes the export of material intended only for use in European reactors or return to the U.S. for use in U.S.
reactors. Sincetheuraniumhasbeen(orisbeing)'returnedtotheU.S. prior to its re-export to Taiwan, it will be subject to separate NRC export licensing action at a later date. Accordingly, no further action on your part will be
- necessary to address this matter.
. A copy of this letter will be made part of the record to document your notification to us.
To avoid this inadvertent misuse of your export licensing authority, you may wish to request an amendment to XUO8561 which would allow the material to be reimported into the U.S. for a_ny purpose which may be-subsequently authorized.
