. Gentlemen:
Thank you for the results of the sluice sampling provided ~in your letter dated October 11,1989(UNC-ALO.89-287M). These results indicate that the area around the sluice now meets the release criteria.
Provided these results are verified during the confirmatory survey, no further decontamination will be necessary.
I understand that you have spoken with Mr. Jerry Roth, Region I, regarding grid block B-138 and the confirmatory survey. Our concern stems from the fact that UNC states that the grid has been backfilled with clean soil, yet the survey.
that Mr. Roth conducted still indicated the presence of radioactivity at levels 5 to 10 times background. This indicates that contamination may have been reintroduced'into the grid.
It is nty understanding that UNC has agreed to resample this grid and remove contamination if necessary. This grid will be sampled during the confirmatory survey.
The confirmatory survey has been tentatively scheduled for the morning of November 17, 1989.
If there are any changes to the schedule, either 1 or Mr. Roth will inform you of the new date.
