By application dated September 8, 1989, the licensee requested an amendment to License No. SNM.308 to add a Health Physics Supervisor position to their safety organization, j
-Discussion i
The Health Physics Supervisor will reaort to the Director of Technical Services and will supervise the healti physics technicians for the routine day.to. day activities associated with the Health Physics Laboratory. This new position will allow the Health Physicist Specialist more time to concentrate on the technical and managerial aspects of the radiation safety program. The proposed qualifications of the Health Physics Supervisor are a college degree and at'least 1 year experience associated with nuclear safety concerns. Since the proposed qualifications do not require werk experience specifically related to radiation protection, the staff recommends the following license condition:

Notwithstanding Section 2.2.3.5, the Health Physics Supervisor shall l
have a college degree and at.least 2 years work experience in the field of radiation protection.
Conclusion / Recommendation The new position of Health Physics Supervisor should enhance UNC's radiation safety program. Accordingly, I reconnend issuance of this amendment, as conditioned, f)
