Page 1 of 1 Docket No. 50-338 Report No. LER 80-045/03L-0

Description of Event

On May 13, 1980, while performing periodic test (PT 41.1), the pressurizer level indication deviation on the Auxiliary Shutdown Panel was found to be greater than the P.T. acceptance criteria (i3%). This item is reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.b.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence The minimum number of instrument channels remained operable in the control room. The auxiliary shutdown panel monitoring channel was returned to service within 30 days as per T.S. 3.3.3.5.

Therefore, the health and safety of the general public were not affected.

Cause of Occurrence A packing leak on isolation valve 1-RC-129 caused a decrease in the level of the reference leg.

Immediate Corrective Action

A maintenar.ce request was submitted and the valve was repaired during the May, 1980 outage.

Scheduled Corrective Action The periodic test (PT41.1) was performed to prove the adequacy of repair.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence No further actions are required.
