i 23 2. On June 6, 1980, a copy of a Petition for 24 Leave to Intervene in this proceeding, apparently filed by 25 The Committee to Bridge the Gap, was received from the 26

I Nuclear Regulatory Commission on the Los Angeles campus of 2 the University of California.

While that document appears to bear a file 5 stamp dated May 27, 1980, it does not have attached any 6 proof of service reflecting its service on The Regents on or 1 before that date, as required by 10 Code of Federal 8 Regulations section 2.701(b), nor was that document in fact 9 ever served on The Regents by The Committee to Bridge the 10 Cap at any time. The first notice The Regents received that 11 any such petition had been filed was on June 6, 1980, when a i

12 copy of it was forwarded from the Nuclear Regulatory 13 Commission.

14 15 4. The office of the attorneys for The Regents 16 is located in Berkeley, California. The Petition was not ,

i 17 received there until June 10, 1980. j 18 ,

19 5. The Regents has not yet had adequate time to ,

20 evaluate the allegations of the Petition nor to determine if 21 any answer to it is appropriate. Accordingly, The Regents 22 hereby requests pursuant to 10 Code of Federal Regulations 23 section 2.711 an extension of 20 days (until July 7, 1980) I I

24 to file any' answer to that Petition. The requested 25 extension should not cause any prejudice to the proposed 26 intervonor.
