Subject:

Status of PRM-50-116 Mr. Slider, I am writing to provide an update on the letter dated August 2, 2018, in which NEI submitted a petition for rulemaking to the NRC. NEI requested that the NRC amend the regulations in 10 CFR Part 50 to remove non-emergency notification requirements.

The NRC docketed the petition for rulemaking as PRM-50-116 and published a notice with a request for comment in the Federal Register on November 20, 2018 (83 FR 58509). The public comment period ended on February 4, 2019, and the NRC received 16 public comment submissions. These submissions have all been posted on regulations.gov (Docket ID: NRC-2018-0201). The NRC staff is considering the merits of NEIs petition and the public comments. Once the agency has made a determination on the petition, a notice will be published in the Federal Register explaining the Commissions finding. NEI will also receive a letter at that time notifying you of the action that the Commission has taken.

Please feel free to contact me at Daniel.Doyle@nrc.gov or 301-415-3748 if you have questions.

Sincerely, Dan Doyle Project Manager U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission daniel.doyle@nrc.gov 301-415-3748 1
