Dear Mr. Patrick rN
~
NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH EFFLUENT LIMITATI0dS - NPDES PERMIT ~
NO. IN0026450 - SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT Description of the noncompliance--Discharge No. 002 - construction sewage treatment plant effluent. A semple collected on May 8, 1980, and reported by the laboratory en May 15, 1980, contained 50 mg/l of BOD,,, and 63 mg/l of suspended solids, exceeding the maximum permit
~
_ limitations of 45 mg/1..
1 Cause and period of the noncompliance---The exact cause or causes are unknown, but wo believe that excessive infiltration may have contributed to the problem. One-half inch of rain fell during a one-hour period ittnediately preceding collection of the sample, and this probably caused a temporary hydraulic surge.
Steps taken to prevent recurrence of the noncomplying discharge--
Additional samples will be collected and if the problem persists a more detailed investigation will be made.
Sincerely, a
(
