Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and ?

File 0272/15525/15526 PRD-80/18, Status Report, Improper Installation of High Pressure Core Spray Diesel Generator Control Panel AECM-80/97 On April 11, 1980, Mississippi Power & Light Company notified Mr. F. Cantrell of your office of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station construction site. The deficiency concerns the installation of the High Pressure Core Spray (HPCS) Diesel Generator control panel. The suspect panel, designated 1H12-P118, was supplied by General Electric and apparently incorrectly installed. The panel was noted to be plug welded in some locations; however, the vendor drawings specify an installation using concrete anchors.

Our preliminary investigation into the_ extent of this deficiency has revealed at least one additional panel exhibiting this deficiency, namely, Panel 1H22-P028.

As part of the evaluation of this condition, an analysis has been requested of the plug welded installation to determine if the potential exists for adverse safety affects. A corrective action plan will be O
