Grier, Director Office of Inspection and Enforcement U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region 1 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, Pennsylvania 19406
Dear Mr. Grier:
NRC BULLETIN NO. 80-03 LOSS OF CHARCOAL FROM STANDARD TYPE 11, TWO-INCH, TRAY ADSORBER CELLS NO. 1 AND 2 UNITS HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION In reply to IE Bulletin No. 80-03, dated February 6, 1980, we offer the following:
On March 21, we replied to subject bulletin as required, in-dicating that we were awaiting a response from our Architect Engineer, Bechtel Power Corporation and expected to have our investigation of the bulletin by L'ay 1, 1980.
Our response is no action is required for the Hope Creek Pro-ject on the subject bulletin for the following reasons:
1.
No charcoal adsorbers have been shipped to the site for installation, and no inspections are needed therefore.
2.
Suppliers of the charcoal adsorbers will be MSA Company and AAF Company, not Flanders Filters, Inc.
3.
Attachment of the perforated screens on to the Hope Creek charcoal adsorbers will be spot welds at approximately 2" centers, not with rivets at 6" centers.
Should any additional information be desired, we will be pleased to further discuss it with you.
Very truly yours, A -
CC Director, Division of Fuel Facility &
Material Safety Inspection Office of Inspection & Enforcement Washington, DC 8006280381
