Dear Ms. Tichon:
Subject:
Lost Package Containing Tritium Sources (6 X 600 mci 3 )
H In response to your request for information concerning our actions regarding the loss of material shipped by you, the follow 1'1g information is provided.
Region I was notified by NRC State Programs Office in late December,1979, that a package containing six tritium sources shipped by Schlumberger Well Services, Houston, Texas to EMR, Princeton Junction, New Jersey, was lost on November 5,1979 and presumed stolen at Trenton Airport.
The following individuals and organizations were contacted between December 26 and 28, 1979:
1.
Allegheny Airlines (Trenton, New Jersey) - Mr. T. Kottyan 2.
Schlumberger Well Services - Mr. C. Racster (Houston, Texas) - Mr. R. Mathews 3.
Ewing, New Jersey Township Police 4
Garrison Express (Trenton Airport) 5.
EMR (Princeton Junction, New Jersey) - Dr. S. Smith These contacts uncovered no new information and it was concluded that the sources were stolen as reported to the Ewing Police.
Since the sources presented no external. hazard to any individual, and an internal uptake of tritium by any individual was considered unlikely, Region I did not pursue the incident further.
Sincerely /
