Dear Mr. Seyfrit:
Sot th Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Hos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Safety Related Welding Procedures Confirming the telephone conversation between Mr. W. A. Crossman and our Mr. W. N. Phillips and Mr. D. G. Barker today, listed below are actions that will be taken prior to release of safety related welding at the South Texas Project site.
1.
Reconfirm the qualification of site safety related welding procedures by a.
confirmation of existing welding procedure qualifi-cations, or b.
requalification of the welding procedure.
2.
Close out of all Audit Deficiencies on Brown & Root Audit ST-35; this Audit calls for the following aci; ion:
a.
Review Mechanical Procedures (MECPs) against ASME requirements and revise as necessary.
b.
Review procedures to insure that weld acceptance criteria have been approved by Level III QA personnel.
c.
Insure that all welder qualifications were inspected by certified QC inspector personnel.
d.
Determine the cause and corrective action necessary to improve adherence to procedure for weld filler material control.

Develop a Materials Engineering Procedure for the control of weld procedure qualifications.
Stop work will be released by individual welding procedure through close out of Brown & Root Audit ST-35 and reconfirmation of site safety related welding procedure qualifications.
As discussed with you, we will notify you and your site inspector prior to commencement of the above referenced welding activities.
