April 22, 1980 OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER Mr. Richard Smith, Director John F. Kennedy Space Center National Aeronautics & Space Administration Kennedy Space Center, Florida 32899
Dear Mr. Smith:
I want to thank you and your staff for our very pleas nt and useful visit to the Kennedy Space Center on April 9 and 10.
I enjoyed our discussion very much, and agree with you that in the long run the Three l
Mile Island accident is going to have a very beneficial effect in straightening out a number of problems in our regulatory scheme in nuclear affairs just as the Apollo tragedy did for that program.
Your staff was most helpful and the discussions very interesting.
I think we can learn a number of useful things from the ways in which you do things there at the Center. We are reflecting on what we have seen and will be in touch with your staff in due time.
51 ncerely, q
