Sells, Acting Chief Environmental Projects Branch 2 Division of Site Safety and Environmental Analysis V. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 Docket No. 50-267

Subject:

Final Environmental Monitoring Program Report

Reference:

NRC letter D.E. Sells to F.E. Swart, G-80015, dated January 16, 1980

Dear Mr. Sells:

In the referenced NRC letter to the Public Service Company of Colorado you stated "The staff has reviewed the proposed actions and agrees with a suspension of the nonradiological ecological monitoring pending the staff's review of the final ecological monitoring report." Publ ic Service Company of Colorado (PSC) had estimated this report would be ready for submittal to the NRC by the end of March 1980. Circumstances have arisen which delayed preparation of the report.

Thorne Ecological Institute, who has conducted the nonradiological ecological monitoring program for PSC since March 1972, is preparing the final ecological monitoring report. Four of the six sections of this report have been completed in draft form, and are presently being reviewed.

Two sections, notably, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles and aquatic invertebrates have not yet been submitted by the principle investigators due to logistic problems encountered in reassembling and correlating data from previous years. PSC will submit the final ecological summary report as soon as these two sections have been received from Thorne Ecological Institute and properly reviewed. The final report will be submitted to the NRC no later than July 1,1980.

Very truly yours, (Y
