PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION April 21, 1980 PRELTHINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT PNS-II-80-9 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of an; event of POSSIBLE ga,tional security or public interest significance.

The information presente is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

SUBJECT:

BOMB THREAT On April 18, 1980, at approximately 11:00 p.m, a bomb threat was received by the desk officer at the Yellow Creek construction s:.te.

An unidentified woman said she had overheard two men talking who said an explosive device had been placed in a building at the site and would go off between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.

The woman did not furnish additional information other than to say she was calling because she did not want to see anyone get hurt. The licensee conducted search with negative results.

The licensee notified the Tishomingo Sheriff a

Departnent.

Construction is 12% cortplete on Unit I and 3% on Unit 2.

No fuel was onsite, r

There has been no media interest. A news release is not planned by the licensee or the NRC. The State of.Yi ssissippi has been notified.

The IAT was notifed.

This Preliminzry Notification is issued for information only and no further action by IE is anticipated.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the licensee at 8:00 a.m. on April 21, 1980. This information is current as of 2:00 p.m. on April 21, 1980.
