Dear Mr. Cornelsen:

HSilver RIngram/LA I apologize for the delay in responding to your Tetter, however, I trust that our phone conversations did provide you with general answers to your questions.

I believe that I can state with certainty that the tour you propose to the Harrisburg area would not endanger your orchestra in any way as a result of past or future releases from Three Mile Island.

More specifically, in response to your itemized questions, there is currently l

no measurable contamination in the area surrounding Three Mile Island at this time. This determination has been made by a number of Federal and State l

agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency who has the primary federal responsibility for environmental monitoring in the area. There has been no significant radioactivity resulting from Three Mile Island in the offsite areas since approximately May of last year, therefore, the air, water, l

and food chains are uncontaminated.

I Although there is always a possibility of leakage of some amounts of radio-activity from Three Mile Island and some low level leakage to the atmosphere does occur, the amounts are so small as to not present any hazard even to the full time residents near the site. Therefore, I could offer no specific suggestions to you or your organization with regard to any limitations to be imposed on your visit to the area. For your infomation. I am enclosing a copy of the interagency report on the assessment of doses and impacts resulting from the Three Mile Island accident. As you can see from this report, even those releases from the accident itself, which were far more significant than any which we could currently project, resulted'in minimal doses to people of the Harrisburg area and consequently minimal health effects.

Sincerely, Originalsignedbyi 1
