Arkansas Nuclear One - Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-313 and 50-368 License Nos. DPR-51 and NPF-6 IE Bulletin 80-03, Loss of Charcoal From Standard Type II, 2 Inch, Tray Adsorber Cells (File:

1510.1 and 2-1510.1)

Gentlemen:

In response to the subject I&E Bulletin, a visual inspection was con-ducted at ANO of all air exhaust systems containing AACC Standard Number CS-8T type II Car on Adsorber Cells as described in Section 5 of ANSI N510-1975. The f ndings of this inspection were that all cells in use and in storage for future use are of a spot weld construction (no rivets).

The spot welds fastening the perforated screen to the framework are randomly spaced and average approximately one inch between welds.

The perforated screen itself is spot welded around the perimeter and along all interior supports on both top and bottom.

There was no indication of weld breakage and no sagging or warping of the perforated screen.

The following information describes the system, manufacturer, type and condition of charcoal adsorber cells used and planned for use at ANO.

All adsorbers are American Association for Contamination Control, Standard CS-8T type II Flatbed Cells two inches thick.

i Good = spot welds fastening perforated screen to support framework are holding (top and bottom). No evidence of screen sagging or warping away from frame.
