IE Bulletin No. 80-02, " Inadequate Quality Assurance for Nuclear Supplied Equipment";
January 21, 1980 Clinton Power Station Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-461 and 50-462 Construction Permits No. CPPR-137 & CPPR-138 This is in reply to your letter of January 22, 1980, whereby you forwarded the referenced IE Bulletin No. 80-02 which described cer-tain quality assurance problems at the Marvin Engineering Company.
Our responses to the bulletin questions for the Clinton Power Station are given below:
1.a. Clinton Power Station Unit 1 feedwater spargers and thermal sleeves are fabricated by Chicago Bridge and Iron Nuclear.
1.b. The spargers were purchased in May, 1977, and are expected to be r e elved in September, 1980.
Their purposes are to evenly distribute feedwater to the annulus between the shroud and the reactor vessel to obtain uniform mixing and even temperature distribution and to protect the reactor vessel feedwater nozzles from rapid temperature transients.
