INFORMATION FOR ORNL re CRANE DETAILS Gentlemen:

This letter confirms information furnished to H. Nelas, ORNL, during a telephone conversation with J. Kesman, Morris Operation, on February 19, 1980. This information was requested by Mr. Nelms during a conference call on February 15 among Messrs. Nelms, Kesman, and F. Empson, NRC. The information furnished by Mr. Kesman was substantially as follows:

a) Rail Attachment for Cask Crane - The cask crane rail is U.S.S.135# rail and is in contact with an inverted 18 inch steel channel. The rail base is attached to the channel with steel clips on 23 inch centers. There is one clip on each side of the rail and the clips are made of 1/2" thick steel plate (3-3/4" x 6" x 1/2"). Each clip is attached to the building structural with two 1 inch diameter bolts and self-locking nuts.

Each rail clip rests on a spacer plate which is 2-1/2 inches wide, 6 inches long, and 1/2 inch thick.

b) Rail Attachment for Basin Crane - The basin crane rail is 40# rail and is clipped to the top of a concrete wall with steel rail base clips on 24 inch centers. The clips are located on each side of the rail and measures 4" x 4-3/4" l

x 3/8" thick. The clips are secured to the concrete wall l

with a 3/4" diameter steel bolt that is embedded into the 800.4180133

concrete. The bolts are 10" long with 8" of the bolt embedded in the concrete. Each' rail base clip rests on a steel spacer plate that measures 3" x 4" x 1/2" thick.
