'1he Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards held its 237th meeting in Washington, DC on January 10-12, 1980. Items considered at this meeting l
i are sumnarized below:
te Comittee met with members of the NRC Staff to discuss the proposed NRC action plan to implement the recommendations of the President's Commission and other studies on the Three Mile Island Unit 2 ('1HI-2) accident. An initial report has been completed and provided to you; additional discussion with the NRC Staff is planned in the near future when the action plan has been developed further.
W e Committee met with members of the NRC Staff to discuss available information regarding proposed implementation of NRC Bulletins and Orders resulting from the 'INI-2 accident. Additional discussion is planned during the 238th ACRS meeting.
W e Committee met with members of the NRC Staff to discuss the proposed revision of the NRC Criteria for Siting Nuclear Power Plants (NURKi-0625).
Additional discussion of this matter is planned durire the 238th AGS meeting.
W e Committee reacted favorably to your request for its participation and comments regarding rulemaking on radioactive waste storage and disposal although a problem with the proposed schedule was identified.
Specific Comittee comments have been provided in a separate letter to you.
l te Committee developed comments in response to your request regarding methods to strengthe6 the ACRS' role. A copy of this response has been sent to you.
We Committee requested that the NRC Staff provide the ACRS with copies of user requests and other memoranda which identify safety research needs.
A copy of this request to the EDO has been provided to you.
