50.53(e) Report on 3E Receptacle Pins for Main Reactor Control Panels.

Dear Mr. Fiorelli:

On February 19, 1980, Mr. H.A. Walker, Site Project Ouality Assurance Engineer notified NRC Inspector P.A. Barrett, who was performing an on-site inspection, of a 50.55(e) report on Terminations to Receptables in the Main Control Room Panels 601, 602, and 603.

A number of connections to the terminals on these receptacles appeared to be loose. Subsequent investigation revealed that both the number 20 and number 16 wire used in the panels were involved. In addition to this, a problem was noted 1 in the cutting or breaking of strands in the number 16 wire. A decision has been made tnat all number 20 wire to the receptacles in the panels will be retermina ted. Disposition to the number 16 wire terminations is still under consideration, with action to be determined in the near future. The investiga-tion of other GE supplied panels indicates that the problem appears to be limited to the 3 noted panels.

We are providing this interim report since our investigation and action is not completed at this time. A final report should be sutxnitted to NRC-Region III prior to July 18, 1980.
