Facility: Metro;olitan Edison Company Three !!ile Island, Unit 2 Piddletown, Pennsylvania Docket Nar.ber 5C-320

Subject:

EPICOR-II PERFORPR!CE On January 29, 1950, the licensee public ~

.innounced that approximateif 95,C00 gallons of intermediate-level racioactive waste water in the Tf I-2 auxiliary building tanks had been processed by the EPICOR-II system as of today.

Approxirately 330,000 gallons of the waste water remains in the auxiliary building yet to be processed by EPICCR-II.

Rect,t E?ICCR-II operation has not resulted in the degree of cleanup ex:eriented in the ir.itial operation and this has caused a delay in the pr :sssing cf water in the auxiliary building.

Initial evaluation shows so e of the radioactive material to be in a colloidal state whica is not easily removed by ion-exchange.

Additional cleanup however has been possible by recirculation of the water through EPICOR-II with removal 3 radioactivity oy either the preccat filter or by ic7-exchange.

Licer.see and liRC/TFI Technical Support Staff review of this area continues.

The NRC does not plan to isste a press release but is responding to news cedia inquires.
