Dear Dr. Kepford:

i i

During the course of a telephone conversation on January 29,1980, you requested my assistance in obtaining copies of the following documents:

)

1.

1979 BEIR REPORT (Draft);

2.

1979 (Draft) NCRP SCIENTIFIC 40 REPORT:

3.

GJ01001978 AND 1979 (if out) GRAND JUNCTION URANIUM INDUSTRY SEMINAR *;

5.

i

Dr. Chauncey R. Kepford _

I undertook to attempt to provide you with copies of the requested documents even though 1) the time for discovery in the above-captioned proceedings, as regards the radon release issue, has long since expirediand 21 the relevance, if any, of the above listed documents to the radon release issue was less than clear to me.

With the exception of the seventh item listed above, none of the requested documents is NRC generated.

Thus, as I advised you during subsequent telephone conversations on February 4 and 6,1980, I could not locate copies to send you since NRC Staff personnel had only their own personal copies available.

With the exception of the two documents listed in Item 6 above, copies of which I nailed to you on February 4,1980, these documents are rather bulky and copying them would be expensive and time-consuming to the Staff. As to those documents. I have verbally supplied you with the name, addres_ and/or telephone number as to where copies might be obtained by you.

During the course of our telephone conversation on February 6,1980, you stated, in further clarification of your request as regards Item 7 above, that you wanted to see copies of Staff DESs or FESc which contained "a work-up of how cost / benefit analyses conclusions are arrived at, including radiological considerations as spelled out in 10 CFR Part 51".

As I understood it, you were looking for " figures" or calculations within the cost / benefit balance sections of those documents.

I advised you that the various Staff DESs or FESS presently in your possession were probably representative of any additional such documents that I could forward you. Accordingly, in the absence of requests for specific DESs or FESS, no documents have been sent to you as regards Item 7 above.

I have, however, enclosed for your information copies of pages 5-36 and 10-13 of the DES issued in May,1979 for the New England Power Units 1 and 2.

Sincerely, W<
