Dear Governor Thornburgh:

Please accept my invitation to be our guest for the opening of the Nuclear Regulatory Ccmission's new office in Middictewn, Pennsylvania, at 11:00 A.M.

on January 30, 1980.

As ycu kncw. we have for some time vanted to prcvide a place where persons living in the vicinity of Three Mile Island could conveniently meet and talk with the senior NRC staff members who work en Three Mile Island in connection with the accident cleanup.

Both r.'yself and Richard Vollmer, Director of the NRC/TMI Technical Sucport Staff at Three Mile Island, and Deauty Director, Jchn Collins, v.ho is in charge there on a day-to-day basis and who now lives near the site, believe that the opening of the new office in Store No.14, the dcwntcun mall,100 Drewn Street, Middletown, Pennsylvania, will provide the public sith mre direct access and easier means of getting answers to the questions that people may have about what is going en at Three Mile Island.

In addition to Mr. Collins, the NRC Office of Public Affairs will be regularly represented in the new office and both Mr. Collins and Mr. Gary F. Sanborn, Field Public Affairs Officer, plar to be there until 8:00 P.M. each Wednesday to accomodate those who cannot visit them during normal daytime hours. The ncrmal hcurs will be 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9:00 A.M. to noon on Saturdays.

We hope that you or your representative will be able to come and meet the NRC staff at the opening ceremonies, and I look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,

..arold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Distribution Copies:
