This in in response to your letter to Lee V. Gossick, dated January 3, 1960, concerning fissica procucts in the cuo sa@le frca tne Susquenanna River near tne Three dile Islano Station.
The State Caole, Tckyo 24423, cated Decamcer 26, 1979, reported tnat Jr. Noouya Ogino nac anncunced the ciscovery of cesiuc-134 in muc sa@les taken on Octocer 27, 1979, froct areas adjacent to the Three Mile Islano site. Cesium-134 concentraticns of 105 and 95 picocuries per kilograr.,

Cesium-134 is a fission procuct with a half-life of 2.06 years. The isotcpe is introcucea into the environment from a variety of sources, incluoing weapons testing fallout and routine power reactor liquia discharges. Sediment concentrations of cesium-134 in the hundrecs of picocuries per kilogram are considered insignificant from tne standpoint of puolic health and safety or environmental impact.
