ANALYSIS & CLASSIFICATION OF LCSS OF FEEDWATER Date SITUATIONS AUGUST 10, 1977

..ir.
DISTRIBUTION CA Creacy RC Luken JT Janis GT Fairburn LC Rogers CE Mahaney FR Faist During HFT and mini-HFT, instanacs of loss of feedwater to the main feedwater uozzles will occur. These instances are hard to classify into the existing categories of allowable operating transient cycles in the reactor coolant syntem functional specification.
The present categories are as follows. They are reserved for actual reactor trip or dry steam generator incidents, and are considered much more severe than the simple loss of feedDater situatiens being experienced during functional testing.
ALLOWABLE TRANSIENT TYPE (NO.)
TRANSIENT TITLE DESIGN CYCLES 8C Reactor Trip Due to Loss of 88 Feedwater. Flow 17A Loss of Feedwater Flow to One 20 Steam Generator Emergency Conditions 25 Bared on the above information, E&W will investigste the establishment of a new and more appropriate category to be entitled " Interruption of Feeduater to the Main No::les".
In order to ascertain the number of transient cycles allowable under this new category, it is requested that the following information be made available to the Stress Analysis Group et Mount Vernon on as many of the loss of feedwater flow to the main no::1ca incidents as practical:
Initial Steam Pressure (saturated steam temperature) l Initial Feedwater Flowrate j
Initial Feedwater Tenparature l

[LLIOTTTODISTRIEUTION AUGUST 10, 1977 Estimate of Time o'f Loss of Feedwater Fiow Final Steam Pressure Final Feedwater Flourate Final Feedwater Temperature This information should be sent to Mr. R. W. Winks at Lynchburg. Average nozzle condition information will then be sent to Mr. C. W. Bruny at Mount Vernon.
