26th of November OUR SOTH YEAR 1979 It is my firm belief, Mr. Denton,
........that nuclear power is a necessity for the future welfare of our people, our economy and our country.
Its importance cannot be ignored!
The Three Mile Island incident has been blown all out of propor-tion, primarily by the media. Though there were no deaths or injuries in that occurrence, there has been an abundance of adverse reaction to it. When accidents in the nuclear power industry are compared to those in other power-related industries, such as coal mining, for example, where death, injury and permanent health damage is an almost daily occurrence, then the nuclear power industry is the safest in its field.
The attitude, therefore, of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, is not only puzzling, it is downright mystifying. Why should a freeze be put on construction permits and operating licenses for nuclear power plants? This decision was issued on November 5 by the NRC 'nd I am appalled that such action was taken.
With the present situation in Iran, it seems mandatory that nuclear power be promoted.
How else can we answer the power supply question? Nuclcar power is a savings which cannot and should not be swept aside.
Government bureaucracy is continuing to strangle the private, free enterprise system on which this great country and its successful independence is based.
Sincerely / /
Sw
