Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit I (TMI-1)
License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Solid Radwaste Disposal TMI-I currently has in its radwaste inventory approximately 5,000 gallons of evaporator bottoms, 300 cubic feet of spent bead resin and 300 cubic feet of used precoat (powdered resin).
Only the evaporator bottoms include some waste from TMI-II.
We intend to process the entire inventory for disposal by the time TMI-I is restarted.
Processing is planned to begin by February 1, 1980.
Evaporator bottoms and used precoat are to be solidified prior to disposal.
Spent resin will be dewatered and/or solidified. The radwaste will be processed to comply with the applicable DOT and NRC regulations as well as the burial sites' disposal criteria. Where waste is to be solidified, solidification will be performed in accordance with an NRC approved process control document.
If any waste disposal requirements are to be imposed, in addition to the ones indicated above, please contact E. C. Fuhrer (ext. 8012) of my staff prior to February 1, 1980.
