As part of the Nuclear Regulatory Comission's investigation into the Three Mile Is,lpnd accident, we are pursuing allegations that the plant was/ rushed" into comercial operation in ordar to achieve certain ~
tax and financial advantages.
According to the Washington Post of April 6, 1979, your organization held a news conference aTleging such action.
1!c would appreciate it if you could make available to us a copy of the naterial presented to the press at that news conference. Specifically, we would appreciat a copy of the letter Public Citizen cent to President Carter, the 4%tudy released by Public Citizen suggesting "that the decision to put the unit into comercial operation was an economic decision that dis-regarded a troubling record of mechanical malfunctions" (Washington Post, April 6,1979), and any other info'rmation in your possession which might assist us in our inquiry.
It is our intention to investigate seriously all allegations of misconduct or improper procedure involved in the TMI accident. He would appreciate your cooperation in this request so that we may carry out this task.
