Dear Mr. Durr:

In confirmation of our discussions on Thursday, November 15, 1979, we have the following comments:

l I'

1.

The Dresser Electromatic Pilot Operated Relief Valve Model 31533VX-30 is designed for saturated steam service only.

This information was transmitted to Mr. Lou Lanese of GPU on April 1, 1979 at which time we also confirmed the fact that as a result of the valve being designed for steam service, we have no test data regarding capacities on liquid service.

This comment has been relayed to just about every person that we have had dealings with at Babcock & Wilcox, Metropolitan Edison, and NRC.

2.

The valve at Three Mile Island is confirmed to be operable 0

with 700 psi back pressure at 500 F.

I trust the above information is sufficient for your needs at this time.

If there is any further data I can provide, please feel free to call me.
