Mr. John Lloyd 29 Froelich Avenue Montville, Pennsylvania 17554
Dear Mr. Lloyd:
Your communication to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission earlier this year concerning the Three Mile Island incident is appreciatad.
It was forwarded to me for reply.
I apologize for not providing this response to you sooner but, as you are aware, the Commission and s:aff have been occupied with continued support of the efforts at Three Mile Island, Orders to other facilities, appearances before the President's Comission and various committees of Congress that are investigating the Three Mile Island accident, and the realignment of our own resources and priorities to give immediate attention to the problems resulting from the accident.
With regard to possible future operation of TMI-1, the Commission has ordered that a public hearing be conducted to determine whether the facility should be operated and, if so, under what conditions restart of the plant would take place.
During the hearing, technical issues which are appropriate to assure that future plant operation will not endanger the public health and safety will be addressed.
A copy of the Commission Order which outlines the issues to be considered'is enclosed for your information.
With regard to TMI Unit 2, it will be some time in the future before any decisions will be made on the possibility of restarting the unit.
