Dear Mr. Etheredge:

This is in response to your letter dated June 20, 1980, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, information regarding availability of NRC meeting records.

I understand you spoke to ifr. Walter Magee of the Office of the Secretary on July 2,1980, concerning your letter.

In general the following are available:

A.

Public Meetings Approximately 200 transcripts of open meetings dur.ing the year prior to TMI are available in the Public Document Room (PDR),

1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC.

The average length of each transcript is 100 pages.

B.

Closed Meetings A total of 37 transcripts are in the PDR for closed meetings conducted during the one year prior to the TMI accident.

22 have been made publicly available in their entirety; 15 in part.

C.

TMI All transcripts of TMI meetings are in the PDR.

Tapes are available for listening or copying by the customer in the Office of the Secretary, NRC,1717 H Street, Washington, DC. Tapes for these meetings are available for purchase at an estimated cost of $168.00.

All transcripts released to the public: may be co

($0.08) per page, as specified in 10 CFR 9.14(a) pied at eight cents Copies of these documents can be purchased by writing directly to the PDR.

agreement to pay the reproduction charges, the PDR will arrange for the records to be reproduced by Potomac Research, Inc., a private reproduction contractor servicing the PDR.

You will be billed by Potomac Research, Inc. for the reproduction charges, plus tax and postage, e

It is our current policy to retain transcripts of Commission meetings

-indefinitely in the PDR subject to the contraints of space; likewise the

'. tapes of TMI will be retained indefinitely subject to deterioration of the tapes.
