2-NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Notice of Me,:ing In accordance with the purposes of Sections 29 and 182b. of the Atomic Ener.gy Act (42 U.S.C. 2039, 2232 b.), the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards will hold a meeting on July 10-i2,1980, in Room 1046, 1717 H Street, NW, Washington, DC.

Thursday, July 10, 1980 8:30 A.M. - 9:15 A.M.:

Ooening Session (Ocen) - The Committee will hear and discuss the report of the ACRS Chairman regarding matters to be considered dur'ng the meeting with the NRC Commis-sionert and miscellaneous matters relating to ACRS activities.

9:15 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. and 1:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M.:

ACRS Recort en NRC Safety Research Budget (Ocen) - The Committee will discuss its proposed report to the NRC regarding *.he proposed NRC safety research budget for Fiscal Year 1982.

Portions of this session will be closed as necessary to discuss Pro-prietary Information.

Procosed ACRS Recorts to NRC Chairman /Com-missioners (Ocen) - The Committee will discuss proposed reports to the NRC Chairman and Commissioner V. Gilinsky regarding primary cool-ant pump trip and termination of high-pressure coolant injection during transients, and the use of in-core thermocouples in nuclear reactors.

Friday, July 11, 1980 8: 30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. :

Secuovah Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1 (Ocen) -

The Committee will hear and discuss comments of its Subcommittee and consultants who may be present regarding proposed operation of the Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant, Unit 1 at full power.

The Committee will also hear reports from and hold discussions with representa-tives of the NRC Staff and the applicant regarding this matter.

Portions of this session will be closed as necessary to discuss Pro-orietary Information applicable to this matter.

1:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M.:

Meetino with NRC Chairman and Other NRC Com-missioners (Ocen) - The Committee will meet with the NRC Chairnan, John F. Ahearne, and other Commissioners who may have an interest to discuss safety related aspects of the NRC regulatory program.

2:30 P.M. - 6:30 P.M.:

Procosed ACRS Recorts (Ocen) - The Committee will discuss proposed ACRS reports to the NRC regarding the proposed safety research budget for FY 1982; proposed NRC rule on fire protec-tion criteria for nuclear power plants; and cascade-failures in nuclear power pl ants.

Saturday, July 12, 1980 8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.: ' Executive Session (Ocen) - The Committee will complete discussion of and prepare its reports to the NRC regarding matters con ?dered during this meeting.

In addition, the Committee will hear and discuss reports from its Subcommittees regarding activi-ties related to development and use of quantitative risk criteria, Class-9 accidents in the regulatory process, and other safety issues.

The schedule for future Committee activities will also be discussed.

The Committee will discuss the qualifications of candidates proposed for ' appointment to the Committee.

~ Portions of this session will be closed as necessary to discuss Pro-prietary Information and also closed as necessary to protect infor-mation the release of which would represent an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.

Executive Director as far in advance as practicable so that appropriate arrangements can be made to. allow the necessary time during the meeting for such statements.

Use of still, motion picture and television cameras during this meeting may be limited to selected po.~tions of the meeting as determined by the Chainnan.

Information regarding the time to be set a' side for this purpose may be obtained by a telephone call to the ACRS Executive Director (R. F. Fraley) prior to the meeting.

In view of the possibility that the schedule for ACRS meetings may be adjusted by the Chairman as necessary to facilitate the conduct of the meeting, persons planning to attend should check with the ACRS Executive Director if such rescneduling would result in major inconvenience.

I have determined in accordance with Subsection 10(d) P.L.92-463 that it is necessary to close portions of this meeting as noted above to protect Proprietary Information (5 U.S.C. 552b(c)(4)) and to protect infor-mation the release of which would constitute a clearly unwarranted in-vasion of personal privacy (5 9.S.C. 552b(c)(6)).
