Region II - Suite 3100 RII: JP0 101 Marietta Street, NW M2175n~-366R Altanta, Georgia 30303 I&E Bulletin 79-18 ATTENTION: Mr. James P. O'Reilly Gentlemen:
In a letter dated February 25, 1980, Georgia Power Company assured your office that visual evacuation signals in accessible areas would be installed by March 15, 1980, in partial fulfillment of our commitments to I&E Bulletin 79-18, " Audibility Problem Encountered on Evacuation of Personnel from High-Noise Areas". The installation was completed prior to March 15, 1980.
To complete our commitments to I&E Bulletin 79-18, we have performed noise evaluations for inaccessible areas in both units.
Unit 2 was evaluated during an outage in March.
Unit I was evaluated during an outage in June.
It was determined that visual emergency warning lights were needed in the drywell of each unit.
These lights need to be visible at all elevations in the drywell, circumferentially.
A design change request to install the visual warning lights in both units has been issued.
The tentative time frame for installation of the emergency warning lights is during the fall 1980 refueling outage for Unit 2 and during the winter 1981 refueling outage for Unit 1.
If you have any questions or comments in this regard, please contact this office.
Very truly yours,
$Y W W. A. Widner AlJ DLT/mb xc:
